LRC BLOG IS MOVING!

Comments

Big problem is that it doesn't accept long posts. Unlike some it doesn't give you a word count.
That's a great problem to have! I for one am thrilled that post must be concise and to the point.
Don't mind that the comments are limited in length, however, I really object to that tiny text box, which makes proofing difficult.

A countdown character counter would be helpful, though.

Dear LRC. Not sure where it says that posts are now limited. Is there a maximum allowed lines/words?

I would like to say that I enjoy the in depth posts and will be disappointed if certain LRC listeners input will be curtailed.

I agree. I tend to go on too long with no limit. This'll be like going on a diet. Think of it as political commentary haiku :)

Since I never proof my writing, that's also fine for me. :)

I'm the same way. If I wanted to, I could and would post really long messages, but "certain" people like me just don't have the time. Glad to see you back, Ockraz. :)

One of the problems we have with the news media is that the short "sound bite" is inherently unable to deal with the complexety of issues, and therefor conducive to "screaming talking heads".

Has LRC possibly loosened up on this?

Seems like the posts ran out of gas faster under the new system. It's impossible to find the new posts to respond to them, since they are all under the originating "thread".

It's probably my age, but I am finding it hard to follow the new comments. And I really hate to admit this, but I have not yet figured out how to even submit to the new system. In any case, I'm fine with going back to just shouting at the 'radio'.

Cheers everyone. And keep up the excellent programing LRC. Note to Tony: You need to present the case for old fashioned, rock solid, feet on the ground conservative principals. Also, you really need to offer constructive criticism for your own party or they won't improve.

I just heard LRC on my car radio and would like to respond.

Matt Miller’s use of the term “Indian giver” on Feb. 13 is a very stereotyped slur against Native Americans.

Hey Matt Miller---
Indian giver? Really? Don't know anything about your heritage but insert-epithet-here. Sheeeesh!
Exactly "devora":
Indian giver?
The above posting had 2 more sentences in it. Are comments edited here, or is this just a product of some pathetic Vox glitch? Lame.
VOX is glitchy. The LRC blog has been moved to:

You need to scroll down to the most recent show and not select the first link that redirects here.

Dear Left Right and Center:

I wake up early on Sundays to catch your show,

If there's still a limit on length at the new site, I haven't run up against it yet- in fact, it might discourage meandering (a personal failing of mine and some others) if the limit were tightened.

2 things I don't like about the new system:

-no send private message function-
I think that this is a serious disadvantage.
Sometimes two people have a dialog that
no one else cares about and which
just clutters up the screen for everyone else.

That leads to the second shortcoming ...

-hard to navigate-
It is pretty hard sometimes
to find a thread after you've left
and come back.
Having the LAST ACTIVITY option
as the default doesn't help,
but a bigger problem is that it sprawls
across so many pages.
I wonder if there might be
some way to have just the top and bottom
comments of each thread visible
with DATE as the default setting.
That might make it easier to find your place
by expanding and collapsing.
I find that following the RSS page (found at the top of each blog as an orange pull down thingy, just click on the orange to get the link then bookmark it until the next week) makes it easier to find new posts but there is the issue from time to time where new posts are below the fold and you have to scroll down and expand a thread by clicking "see more replies" once or twice.

I would agree that if they got rid of the "see more replies" and let the pages get longer, it would work better. I doubt the bandwidth needed is that much more.
May Tony Blankely choke on that cup of bile that he's been preparing for others.
As ye sow for others, so shall you reap.

On today's show Tony disappointed me when he accused Matt of using an ad hominem argument.

It was not an ad hominem argument. It was, in part, an "appeal to authority" argument, saying that because conservative economists like Laffer supported it, it was good. There was another non-fallacious argument mixed in from Matt, that the policy had support across the political spectrum.
While I appreciate that the discussion on subjects are longer than the "screaming talking heads" of regular news shows, I still find the discussions seem to be cut short. Any thought of going to one hour?
I understand that the show allows more discussion than the "screaming talking heads" of regular shows, but I am finding the show very rushed. Any thought about going to one hour to allow a fuller development of ideas and points of view?
A lot of "connection errors" on the new blog site.
Why is it that the same people that think government can't do anything right are the very ones who think we don't arrest and torture innocent people and hold them without trial?
[this is good]
I generally like robert to be more concise than he is but I dont think tony talking over him is adding anything to the show. Possible to put an extended version if it runs over onto the website really enjoy the show
Matt

Will you please stop saying that Obama "INHERITED" this financial crisis.

My children and grandchildren are going to inherit this crisis

Obama spent two years convincing voters he was the right man for this crisis.

Obama spent half a billions dollars convincing voters he wanted this crisis

He asked for it and he got. I know he didnt asked for this crisis in particular but it is part of the job. He and everybody else should stop using the lame excuse of Obama inheriting the problem. He has a lot "inheritance" more coming.

I've been listening to this Podcast for a while now, and while I find it interesting overall, something about this week's show struck me.
I've been listening to this Podcast for a while now, and while I find it interesting overall, something about this week's show struck me. While discussing Cuba, Tony mentioned something about going to other Caribbean islands other than Cuba and Matt mentioned something else about visiting islands and well, frankly, I have a lot of friends and acquaintances, almost none of whom can afford to visit Caribbean islands. My wife and I (and I say 'wife' in a completely non-legal way) both have graduate degrees and work hard. We're in our mid-to-late 30's and neither of us have been that far from home. We simply can't afford to travel much if at all. We're lucky if we get to go on vacation 2 years in a row and vacation might be 4 states away.
This attitude seems indicative of the 'bubble' that Obama keeps mentioning. I've heard Tony mention having peacocks at his house. People are abandoning dogs and cats in houses they can't afford to keep and he keeps peacocks? There is a serious disconnect between politicos and the rest of us. Unfortunately, y'all seem to be in it too.

Here are some ideas from the middle class of middle America from an independent somewhat left-of-center voter:

1) No one should be allowed to vote themselves a raise.
2) Term limits. 12 years on any Federal office maximum.
3) Everyone in government needs to stop using the Bible as a prop and actually read the Constitution. Possibly daily.
4) Anyone who makes it known when/where/if they go to church/temple/whatever, should be fined $500,000. Tell us instead what you will do/have done for this country. If you want to work for God, run for pastor of something, not public office. If you have good ideas, I don't particularly care if they were inspired by God/Allah/a shrub/Saturday Evening Post. Put forward your platform and then follow through or get out.
5)You can't vote against something without coming up with a better idea. Or at least a good solid reason why not.
6)Get off your Ass or Elephant and think for yourself. These Stimulus plans stink. Unfortunately, we're in a mess and nobody's come up with better ideas. But voting FOR it b/c it's the Democratic thing to do or AGAINST it b/c they won and your party is bitter is just stupid.

Peace, Meredith Toenjes
