Robert Sheer's comments regarding Prop 8 were disconnected from reality.
Robert Scheer's comments regarding Prop 8 were disconnected from reality. He named several prominent Democrats from whom, he said, "we never heard a word" on the issue. He included Dianne Feinstein on the list. That's a big "oops," Bob. Sen. Feinstein was featured in a TV spot by the No-on-8 campaign. He also objected to Matt Miller's reference to a national "convulsion" following passage of Prop 8, by asserting that all we are seeing are protests from "decent people." Oh really? Sending white powder envelopes through the mail to churches? How "decent" is that? It sounds hateful to me. Arson attacks on churches, as in Colorado? That sounds indecent and hateful to me. But Scheer and many others will defend such indency on the weak ground that Prop 8 is (in Scheer's words) a "human rights violation." It isn't of course. Not by any historically or internationally recognized standard. And mere disagreement over issues of policy, resolved at the ballot box because, you know, this is a democracy, doesn't justify indecency or hatred, let alone violence, as is now being directed against the decent people who only wanted California law to return to what it has been historically and to conform with the law of, hmm, 47 other states.
